2023 WikiTree Challenge 12: Research for the Cambridgeshire & Huntingdonshire Family History Society has ended.

Hello WikiTreers!

In each WikiTree Challenge we partner with another group in the worldwide genealogy community. Together we research seven degrees of connections for seven starting people chosen by our partner.

Challenge #12 will be a lot of fun! Our partner is the Cambridgeshire & Huntingdonshire Family History Society (CHFHS). They are a long-established (in 1976) charity with the specific aim of supporting and encouraging family historians who wish to research the old counties of Cambridgeshire, the Isle of Ely, and from January 2020, Huntingdonshire.

Discoveries, questions, and bounty claims are posted under the seven starting profiles (comments at the top are hidden once read).  We chat in Discord, and are excited to see the encouragement and collaboration there.

Let's show CHFHS what we can do!

Added pre-existing on WikiTree parents (Marsham-132 and Custance-47) of Frances Marsham - 7 degrees from Roger, through marriage.

Anyone help. The 1939 census shows Jenyns-49 as a major in the 6th battalion of what really looks like The Green Howards army - any ideas  - looks like there maybe records on ancestry but they are worldwide not UK so I don’t have access.

Also looks like there maybe newspaper clipping of his marriage but again I don’t have access.

Also his cousins Jenyns-54 and Jenyns-60
Roger is the 4x great grandson of John Williamson, Mayor of Liverpool in 1761. Williamson was a brewer, merchant and slave trader, owning a part share in a slaving ship. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Williamson-18905
connected Clarke-24174(Lucy Swift Clarke) created on 3 Aug 2023(not by me) to her mother Boott-37(Elizabeth Reid Boott) who was already on WT.
Connected https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Chappelow-165 to her parents already on WT

Another notable connection - Roger is the 4th great grandnephew of the historian and antiquarian Francis Blomefield who wrote the definitive County History of Norfolk. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Blomefield-35

Well done Azure Robinson. You get the 10 connection bounty points for this line.

Connected brick wall ancestor John Williamson with her first wife Elizabeth Bassford and her family.

I also found her second wife Elizabeth Roberts which was created as Elizabeth (Unknown) Williamson so I created a new profile and started a merge.

Hi, I added Thomas Clarke Dolbey (abt.1816-1883), four degrees from Marjory Stephenson, and connected him to his father Richard Dolbey (1779-), already connected to the main tree ~~~~

Marjorie
Arber-84 has the potential for two fathers and needs sorted.  Cheers!
Also (later) connected via her uncle William Maydwell Rogers (1858-1902) who already had a profile connected to the main tree ~~~~

Marjorie

Nice work Marjorie Gibbons. 10 connection Bounty points coming you way.

Hilary Buckle added research notes about possible parents of Elizabeth (Smith) Stephenson, and I found and added a newspaper notice of her marriage that confirmed it was the right family - same address as the recent census Hilary had suggested.
That's fantastic! Do one of you want to add the parents?
Oh no, are there two Elizabeth (Smith) Stephensons? Looks like I've found and added the parents to one who wasn't the brick wall - sorry! Confused!
Oh no! I don't think we realized there were two. Sorry for the confusion!
I think the confusion was probably all mine! Sorry

Will done Elizabeth Schafer. 10 Connection Bounty points for you.

A father has been added to brick wall, Frances Stacey. No bounty points yet. There is no reliable information to link him to Frances. Frances does not have a birth or baptism date. There is no any evidence of or a will. The father only has a burial from Family Search as a source. More information will be needed before we can give any bounty points there.

I claimed that I connected the new profile Frederic Adolphus Harrisson-112 to the existing profile Joseph Harrison-17768.

I added parents for Harrisson-110 which connected him to Carter-30085 who was already on the tree and I will improve the sources for her.

I’m new to this but I added Frederick Augustus Harrison as the father of Ernest Henry Harrisson-110 and Emma Jane Carter as Frederick’s wife.  It’s listed in my contributions. I’m surprised to see him apparently being claimed by someone else. Am I missing something here? Thanks.

you can see the scoreboard here. your profiles are showing. i think it updates every 10-15 minutes.

It has been really hard to decide who to award Connection Bounty Points to on this line. 3 people connected within less than 10 minutes on the first day of the challenge.  As it was so close, and the second two could not be aware that a connection had been made when they connected we are sharing the 10 points between them.  Judith Roberts was the first to connect so will get 4 points.  Hillary Gadsby made her connection 3 minutes later, and Chris O'Connall connected 4 minutes after that, but posted first on G2G.  So Hillary and Chris will get 3 points each.  Well done all three of you.

Great job, you three!
I broke through the wall on William. His brother's obituary mentioned him by name and profession, and which one of the early McCrae settlers in Kent was their father. (His father's profile needs improvement and I didn't find anything about his mother yet.)

great work! was trying to figure out who the Van Allen’s were who were living with them or next door in 1851. as the one daughter had Van Allen as a middle name. was wondering if it was his sister but it is probably his wife’s sister-in-law. https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/G21V-CJP

Free space for Soham and specifically St Andrews church.

I’m happy to take more photos if someone has details of where memorials / graves etc are.

Great Idea!  I added some links to your page for the graveyard burials.
Thanks. If I get a chance I’ll go see if I can find some of them too x

Hi! I am working on Canham-89, although I see there were the other profiles that the Cambridge & Huntingdon Family History Society gave 7 or so people to work on.

I have found this way of doing a challenge - challenging :(

I have taken on Canham-89 and found that I can make many connections. He had two wives and possibly six children. If I get points, great, if no points, that's okay.

Thanks, Wendy :)
by Wendy Jones G2G6 Mach 2 (20.2k points)
Awesome Wendy!  I work that way a well.  I start in point range, but to make connections, many times I have to go out past the 7 degrees... but I love connecting to existing profiles for the challenges.

Thanks Donna, I appreciate your comments. I think that there should have been a section also set up for: Are you working on a challenge....?, so you could click on it and get points that way too. Can someone still set that up? Wendy yesblush

I have officially adopted him and will find as much info as I can for the CC7 connections, forwards and backwards. W :)

As long as there is something in Cambridgeshire, it is all fair game in the world of entering connections. Wendy laugh

Roger Soames Jenyns - Art Historian.

This is my first challenge so I'm unsure of my findings...Do they have to be born in Cambridgeshire? I have found Roger Soames Jenyns 2nd G/Grandfather,- George Leonard Jenyns born 19 June 1763 Bottisham, Cambridgeshire, England, according to FS. He was actually born in Norfolk. Birth & Baptism record found on Free Reg UK, which would be within his c7. He was an English priest.  FamilySearch.org 'British Newspaper Archive Notices'. He married Mary Heberden in 1788. 10 children to this marriage.

I have just found a Birth and Baptism record from Free Reg Uk for George Leonard Jenyns. Born 19 June 1763, Baptised 15 July 1763 St Remigius Roydon (Diss) Norfolk England.
Findings are not limited to just Cambridgshire, we will be adding profiles and sources from throughout the world during this challenge.... wherever the families lead us!  All contributions are welcome!  Thanks Megan
Hi, first time challenger here too.... Are our "interesting findings" limited to CC7? I found something about a CC9 that I'd like to share
