2023 WikiTree Challenge 11: The week has ended to research for the Kentucky Genealogical Society (KYGS) [closed]

Hello WikiTreers!

In each WikiTree Challenge we partner with another group in the worldwide genealogy community. Together we research seven degrees of connections for seven starting people chosen by our partner.

Challenge #11 was a lot of fun! Our partner was the Kentucky Genealogical Society (KYGS). They are an enthusiastic group of genealogists and family researchers who first came together in 1973 -- 50 years ago!  The first president, Charles Edwin Shelby, considered Kentucky one of the more important research centers in the country. Their membership has continued to grow every year.

Our week began Thursday, June 22, at noon EDT (4pm UTC) and ended June 29, at noon EDT. You didn't need any particular skills to participate, so everyone was welcome to join us.

Discoveries, questions, and bounty claims were posted under the seven starting profiles (comments at the top are hidden once read).  We chatted in Discord, and were excited to see the encouragement and collaboration there.

We rocked this week!

I hope we get some instruction as to what it is exactly we are supposed to do, but you had me at Genealogy and Kentucky. smiley

by Penny Baugher G2G Crew (790 points)

You will receive an email with instructions as we get closer to Thursday. You can also join us on zoom for one of the two challenge kick offs on Thursday. The links to the zoom calls will be in the email from Mindy.

Thanks for joining Challenge 11 Penny! It's going to be a fun week! We will be sending you a list of the seven starting people, all born in Kentucky. As one big team we will be adding as many people and sources as we can within 7 degrees. You'll get an email later today with more details. Don't let it overwhelm you, it really is just adding people and having fun.

How is this coordinated so that we don't all work on the same line?
by Jeri Steele G2G5 (5.1k points)

Thanks for joining Challenge 11 Jeri! We use Discord to collaborate, and also rely on the Draft Save button to let others know we are working on a profile. The lines quickly expand, so there is never a shortage of profiles to work on once we get things going.

Greetings,

I just joined wikitree and I'm loading up my GEDCOM.  My family goes back to the origins of Kentucky--an ancestor built the first house in Lexington, so this should be a fun engagement
