Biography

Artemissa Malinda “Ardie” was born in 1849 near Smithville in Dekalb, Tennessee. Her parents were Arwine Yates and Malinda Page, who moved the family to Searcy Co, Arkansas in the early 1850s, and then a few miles west into Newton Co in the 1870s.

In 1868 Ardie married John Thomas Nathaniel Powers (1846-1919) of Newton Co. Living near Cave Creek in Newton Co, they had four children. By 1880, John Powers was a widower living with the children in Lamar Co, Texas. Ardie had died at some time after the birth of son William in November, 1873, it is said near Bass of Newton Co, Arkansas.
