Biography

Elvira was born in 1844 in DeKalb, Tennessee, near Smithville. She was the daughter of Arwine Yates and Malinda Page.

In 1861 at age 18, Elvira married Shirley Boyd, 22, in neighboring Pope County. Shirley served in the Union Arkansas 2nd Cavalry from 1863 to 1865. Their first child (to survive) was Alexander, born in 1867 when they were in Missouri. By 1869 had returned to Arkansas and lived Newton Co. In 1880 they farming in Lamar, Texas. Elvira passed away at some time between 1877 and the census of 1880.

Elvira and Shirley had four children:

• Alexander Boyd (1867-1942), m. Attie M. Saunders (1871-1938); 5 children.
• Parelee F Boyd (1869-1929), m. Charlie L Powell (1859-1913); 4 children.
• George M. Dock Boyd (1871- unknown), married Rosa Giddens (1878- after 1930); 2 children.
• Charles J Boyd (1872-1948), m. Florence Estelle Newland (1876-1937); 1 son.
