George Spencer migrated from New York to Louisiana.
George Selden Spencer, a son of Joseph Spencer and Deborah Selden, was born in New York in 1790.[citation needed] He migrated to Louisiana at an unknown date before 1820. In the 1820 census, dated 7 August 1820, George may have had his own household in Catahoula, Louisiana, United States.[1]
He married Nancy Stone of Georgia at an unknown date and location, but probably in Catahoula, Louisiana around 1820.
In the 1830 census, dated 1 June 1830, George Spencer was listed, and can be found on the census in Catahoula, Louisiana, United States. He was listed as 30-40 years old, with his wife in the same age group, six boys and three girls.[2]
Twenty years later, George was recorded as the owner of twenty-six slaves in the U.S. Census Slave Schedule in 1850 in Catahoula, Louisiana.[3]
