William Seldon Spencer was born about 1786 in Connecticut, son of Joseph Spencer (1750–1824) and Deborah Seldon (1753–1825).

His siblings were:

William passed away on 10 February 1869 in West Virginia, United States, aged 82. He was buried in Spencer Cemetery, Vienna, Wood County, West Virginia.[1]

In 1850, William (63)'s occupation was 'farmer'. He was living with his brother, Charles Strong (12); and Deporah Spencer (57), and Horatio G Spencer (18). [2]
