Biography

Elijah Smith, son of William and Katherine Smith, was born 10 Jun 1754 in Stoughton, Suffolk [Norfolk] County, Massachusetts.[1]

He married in Stoughton Dec 14 1780 Mary Lyon of Stoughton,[2] the intention of marriage was enter by the town clerk 15 Jul 1780.[3]

[In 1793 their area was included in a new county, Norfolk.]

Elijah died in Stoughton 25 Oct 1808 and was buried in Dry Pond Cemetery. His stone still stands.[4]

His widow married next 14 Jun 1810 Asa Waters of Stoughton.[5] Asa's first wife was Elijah’s cousin Lydia Smith Waters who had died 22 Jun 1809.

Mary died in Stoughton 25 Feb 1839 and was also buried in Dry Pond Cemetery. Her stone also still stands.[6]

No children are found in the published Stoughton Vital Records.
