Biography

Jacob was born in 1759 in Frederick county, Maryland, the son of Johan Adam Schreiber and Christina Strohsnider.

He first married Elizabeth Shull, she died in 1803. His second wife was Jane Mooney. He had 10 children by his first wife and 3 by the second. Jacob Shriver warranted the tract of land on which he spent his first winter, on March 9, 1786, under the title of "Jacob's Inheritance" which later became the William Orndorff Farm. It was on the same fork of Big Whiteley on which Henry Jackson lived and accounts for the numerous intermarriages with that family.[1]

Jacob died on May 29, 1815. His will, written on January 5, 1815, was filed on June 17, 1815.

In the name of God Amen I Jacob Shriver of the Township of Whitely Green County & State of Pennsylvania being somewhat weak of body but of sound and perfect mind and memory praised be to God for the same do make and ordain this my last Will and testament in manner and form as followith. First my Will is that my Just Debts and funeral charged be all paid and discharged; I do hereby constitue and appoint my well beloved wife Jane Shriver and my brother John Shriver Jointly to be my Executor of this my last Will & Testament.

Second my Will is that my well beloved wife shall enjoy my homested place with the moveable property until her youngst child comes of age and thirdly my Will is that I give & Device to my son Elijah Shriver four hundred Dollars and also I give & Devise to my son Adam Shriver four hundred Dollars and also I give and Devise to my son Jacob Shriver one quarter section of Land I have on the Mudy fork of Wills Creek adjoining lands of John Hohn, a Sorel Mare Sadel & Bridel and so much more as will make his portion amount to four hundred dollars and also I autherise my Executors to sell my plantation on Smiths Creek and buy for my two sons Michael Shriver and John Shriver one quarter section of land for each of them and also I devise so much more to each of them as will make their portions amount to Four Hundred Dollars a piece and I also give and Devise to my two sons William Shriver and Isaac Shriver all the home place to be equaly divided between them at the death of my beloved wife Jane Shriver by their paying my daughter Elenor Shriver an equal portion with the other Girls and fourthly my Will is that after my boys got their portions as above I give and bequeath to my daughter Christina Jackson forty dollars and also I give & bequeath to my Daughter Sarah Shriver forty Dollars forty dollars and also my Will is that my daughters Christina Jackson, Margaret Jackson, Elizabeth Shriver, Sarah Shriver and Mary Shriver shall have an equal portion of my personal property after my two daughters Christina Jackson & Sarah Shriver get their forty Dollars and a piece and fifthly my will is that I give and Devise to my son William Shriver twenty dollars or a cold worth twenty dollars when he arrives at sixteen years of age which will be the thirteenth day of Aprile one thousand eight hundred and twenty one to be purchased by my executors for him out of my personal property. I do hereby revoke and make null void all other Wills heretofore made by me either by writing or by word of mouth.

In Witness & Testimony, whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 5th day of January one thousand eight hundred and fifteen 1815.

Hays Register for the probate of wills and registering letters of Administration in and for said county, personally came Joab Baily Esquire and James Wells subscribing witnesses to the within and annexed Instrument of writing and on their solemn affirmations did depose and say that they were present and saw and heard Jacob Shriver the Testator within named sign, seal , publish pronounce and declare the same as and for his last Will and Testament and that at the time of doing thereof he was of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding according to the best of their knowledge observation and belief

Jacob and his second wife, Jane, were buried on the Isenminger Farm, now known as the Shriver Cemetery I, in Whitely Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania. A memorial page has been established on Find A Grave.

1790 - United States Federal Census - In the 1790 United States federal census, Jacob Shriver is listed living in Washington county, Pennyslvania. Enumerated in the household are 3 free white males under 16 years of age, 1 free white male over 16 and 4 free white females.[4]

1800 - United States Federal Census - In 1800 Jacob Shriver is living with his family in Whiteley, Greene County, Pennsylvania. The household consisted of 3 free white males under 10 years of age, two free white males 10 through 15 and one free white male, 26-44. Also in the household were three free white females under 10 years old, one free white female 10 through 15, and one free white female age 26 through 44.[5]

1810 - United States Federal Census - In the 1810 census, Jacob is living in Whiteley Township in Greene County, Pennsylvania. The household consisted of 3 free white males under age 10; one free white male 10 through 15, one free white male age 16 throu9gh 25 and one free white male age 45 and over. Also in the house hold was 1 free white female under 10 years of age, 2 free white females 10 through 15 and one free white female age 26 through 44.[6]

May 29, 1815 - Death - Greene County, Pennsylvania.
