Joseph Poor is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A090839.

Joseph Poor was born in 1737, the son of Samuel Poor and Elizabeth Searle.[1]

Joseph married Margaret Bayley in Bradford, Massachusetts in 1756.[2][3] They settled in the area of Rowley, MA later (1838) to be broken away as Georgetown, MA., where their nine children were born and registered on the records of Rowley, as follows:

  2. Joseph, b. 13 Dec. 1758 (not listed in the John Poore genealogy)
  3. Samuel, b. 13 Dec. 1758; m. Anna Bridges, 21 Oct. 1784; d. 18 Aug. 1841
  4. George, b. 22 Jan. 1761; m. Mary Little, 11 Dec. 1783; d. 20 Apr. 1833
  5. Ruth, b. 26 Dec. 1762; m. Benjamin Poor, 4 May 1784; d. 30 Sep. 1828
  6. Jesse, b. 3 Feb. 1765; m. Phebe Hedges; d. 1 Oct. 1845
  7. Job, b. 22 Oct. 1767; m1. Sally Hobart; m2. Patty Bixby, 1812; d. 7 Oct. 1851
  8. Joseph, b. 23 Dec. 1770; m. Hannah Wood, 31 May 1797; d. 10 July 1843, and
  9. John, b. 26 Nov. 1775; m. Hannah Chute, 1797; d. 9 Dec. 1819.

Joseph was in the Army at Lake George in the French and Indian War in 1757. At the time of the Revolutionary War, he was the head of a company that marched from Byfield to Cambridge on Apr. 20, 1775, and he signed on the pay roll that year as “Joseph Poor, Capt.”. He was an officer in Byfield Parish and was a deacon of its church. He was recorded on the 1790 census in Rowley, MA.

Deacon Joseph Poor died of "shock of paralysis" while at church service in 1795, at the age of 57.[4] He was buried in what later became known as Georgetown, Massachusetts. [5]
