Biography

Joseph Poor was born in 1770 to Joseph Poor and Margaret Boynton Bailey in Rowley, MA.^[1]

In 1797, Joseph married his first cousin Hannah Wood.^[2] Hannah's mother Alice Bailey was the sister of Joseph's mother Margaret. The couple settled on Joseph's father’s homestead at Rowley, MA (in the area which later became Georgetown, MA). The house was located on the northerly side of Jewett street, which is the old road leading from the church in Byfield to New Rowley. His barn was on the opposite side of the road. He was a farmer.

Joseph and Hannah had three children, all recorded on Rowley records:

1. Joseph, b. 18 Apr. 1798; m. Lucinda Reed, 21 Jan. 1835; d. 4 Aug. 1865
2. Myra, b. 8 Mar. 1800; m. Samuel Thurlow; d. 7 June 1866, and
3. Sophia, b. 10 Aug. 1803; d. 23 June 1866 (unm.).

Joseph was recorded in Rowley, MA on the 1800, 1810, 1820 and 1830 censuses, and in Georgetown, MA on the 1840 census.

Joseph died in 1843, at the age of 72.^[3] He was buried in Byfield Parish Cemetery.^[4]
