Francis was born 15 Jan 1875 in Nebraska. He was the son of Robert Lewis and Ann Joseph.

In 1880 he was living in Looking Glass, Platte, Nebraska.^[1] The household included Robert Lewis age 41, wife Ann Lewis age 36, son Lorenzo Lewis age 16, son Robert Lewis age 14, son David Lewis age 13, daughter Lydia Lewis age 11, daughter Harriet Lewis age 9, daughter Diana Lewis age 8, daughter Martha Jane Lewis age 6, daughter (sic) Francis Lewis age 5, son John Lewis age 4, son William Lewis age 2 and daughter Sarah Ann Lewis age 1. Robert and Ann were born in Wales; Lorenzo, Robert, David and Lydia were born in Ohio; the rest were born in Nebraska. Robert was a farmer. Lorenzo and Robert helped on the farm. David was herding cattle.
