Disputed Parentage: There is no documentation that this person is a daughter of Francis Clark and Cordelia Langford. Susannah has been detached as their daughter and should not be reattached absent primary source documentation and discussion with the US Southern Colonies Project.

Biography

Susannah Clark was born about 1730 and her parentage is presently unknown.

She married Joel Meador before November 25, 1751 in Virginia. They lived in Cumberland Co. before moving into southern Bedford Co., which became Franklin Co. i 1786. She lived in the area of Indian Creek not far from today's Hales Ford. She and her husband Joel were highly successful farmers and prominent citizens. She was one of very few citizens who could afford a luxury item like a riding chair in 1801.

Susannah probably died in January 1818 as her will was proven 2 February 1818. She was a long time resident of Franklin Co. and survived several of her children. She was probably nearly 90 years old when she died.

Question: someone on familysearch deleted my link with Susannah and parents Francis and Cordelia Langford Clark. I've been trying to confirm one way or another for all of our records and was wondering if anyone has proof.

The reason for deletion according to the site member is "she (Susannah) is not named in Francis Clark's will". I will post in G2G if I can't find it in the records on attached parents here either. These are great grandparents of mine, or o I have thought, and I want to be thorough. Cheers! Becky Elizabeth

Becky, do you know what the origin is of Susannah being seen as the daughter of Francis and Cordelia? This profile is showing a place of birth as Essex County. Were they ever documented as having lived there?

Becky, there is now an abstract of Francis will on his profile made by someone who examined the original document in the 1970s. No Susannah is named. Absent some primary source evident or substantial secondary evidence, I don't believe she is a daughter of Francis and Cordelia. If she were their child she would not have been born Essex County. Cordelia would have been well over 50 years of age in 1730. In 1730, Francis and Cordelia lived at Fork Creek, Louisa County. As a member of the USSC team, I'm going to mark the parentage uncertain for the time being.

I am going to agree with you given the evidence and that I was relatively new to the process of online family trees and thought established pathways were verified. Since I can't recall if the connection was approved for my tree before "learning" not all people care about factual documentation, please do mark it unsure and I promise if I can't find anything else I will remove her (and the many, many documented ancestors connected from that union) from my trees. I apologize for any inconvenience(s) I may have caused for you and anyone else. Sincerely, Becky Simmons

I sent you a private message re: info on sources, photos etc for Frances and Cordelia that I have saved- since I may not be related to them I didn't want to post notes and source ideas publically but ran some ideas in the message on who might want the information to post in the bios...if at all...thanks again for everyone's patience. Becky, you shouldn't be afraid to post source documents to a profile you may not be related to. That is the intent of wikitree, people helping other people find source documents which help prove the relationships, or in this case disprove them. Some people do post alot of unsourced profiles and connections, others come along and help with them. I am only the manager for several of these unsourced profiles because they were abandoned so I adopted them with the intent of working on them. I seem to have gotten sidetracked along the way though. There are actually a large number of people on wikitree who just go around working on random profiles to improve the global tree.

On another note, I attempted to compare DNA to many of the DNA connections for Francis, Cordelia, Benjamin and several others. The only matches I found are related to me thru Joel Meador and not thru Francis Clark. I am pretty sure they were attached to a Susannah Meador that my original profile was merged with. I have no evidence to prove/disprove the relationship.
