I became interested in the family research when I was in High School and have spent many years researching the family. I still have a few that I'm not able to connect with but with the DNA technology I am still hopeful to find my way back. My biggest goal however is to ensure my tree is correct and strive for that. I love being able to help others break through their obstacles, and it excites me to find new information on my family! Especially pictures! Oh how I love old pictures. I tend to work more on the profiles of those that I do not know than I do the ones already discovered. I'm an addict and will be the first to admit it. It's nothing for me to pull an all nighter when I believe to be on the trail.

My Life

I was born in St. Helens, Oregon to Nebraska and Kansas farmers Cecil and Peggy Pierce. It was told that they had an especially good crop in 1956 but what the hail didn't get the grasshoppers did. They were devastated and in quandary as what to do. My mom's brother Jack was working in Oregon and told them that there was plenty of work there so they packed up their two children Charline and Jeff and headed to Oregon in September of that year. Daddy got work as a welders helper on the ships. I was born in December of that year. In March of 1957, they returned to their farm in Nebraska. I was the third child of nine born to this family and the only one that was not born in Kansas or Nebraska. I was warned by my mother that if I ever went to Oregon to be careful as I could be repossessed because they left without paying the doctor bill for my birth. They wouldn't let her leave the hospital without paying the 98 dollars for the Hospital bill so that was paid.

I have lived an interesting, yet somewhat painful life as most of us have, but it's been a good one.

I started school in Haddam, Kansas and when I was in the third grade we moved to Byron, Nebraska where I attended school until my sophomore year when we then moved to Mankato, Kansas. I was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in Byron at the St. Paul Lutheran church.

I was first married to Jack Alcorn, 24 May 1974 two weeks after I graduated high school in Mankato, Kansas at the Evangelica Lutheran Church. As a newly married person does, I had hopes and dreams of a forever relationship with a large family. I hoped to have at least 6 children and may have well been happy with a dozen.

Our first daughter, Jessica Joan (pronounce JoAnn) "Jessie Jo" Alcorn was born May 14, 1975 in Belleville, Kansas. She was absolutely beautiful. She was named after my mother whose middle name was also Joan and a character in a book I had read when I was in the 5th grade. I wanted a little girl like the one in the book. Someone that was a bit difficult but grew into a beautiful southern belle.

Our hopes and dreams for that little girl were snatched out from under us and our whole world collapsed when the morning after Jessies birth she died from Hyline Membrane disease.

The next year and a half were rough ones for us, but then God blessed us with a happy healthy baby boy September 19, 1976, Belleville, Kansas. Joseph Doyle Alcorn was named for his grandfather Doyle Alcorn, and was born on his grandmother Alcorn's birthday making him a very special baby. For the Alcorn's he would be the first to carry on the name. His great grandparents Bert and Lulu were over the moon excited to have an Alcorn heir. Their joy was doubled when we welcomed a second son to our family as Stevan Jeffery Alcorn arrived 15 Jan 1979, Belleville, Kansas. Stevan was named for my brother Jeffery Daniel Pierce.

Following Stevan's birth, I had two miscarriages, yet then again God blessed us with the daughter I had so yearned and prayed for. Chrisinthia Rose Alcorn born Dec 21 1980, Minneola, Kansas. Oh so special was that little girl that we brought home on Christmas eve. She arrived on the anniversary of her great grandparents Orlo and Irma VanWey's wedding , and her great Aunt Betty's birthday. She was named Chrisinthia ( after my great grandmother Creszencia Koch Nutsch. Rose for various reasons. One was it was the maiden name of her great grandmother Lulu Rose Alcorn. Two it was the middle name of her great grandmother Alta Rose McCollum Nutsch, her great aunt Pamela Rose Nutsch Hoge, and my sister, Andrea Rose.

As life would have it....Jack and I divorced in 1986 in Colorado. I remarried a year later SJ Black at the Lutheran Church in Platteville, Colorado 24 Jan. Oh what a mistake. I knew right away I had made a mistake but I tried to make it work. You know....you made your bed....!! Though SJ "Jere" and I only lived together 7 years we didn't divorce until 2000, Eugene, Oregon, when I met and wanted to marry Maurice (Vern) Holmes. My divorce was final in April and Vern and I married 16 September 2000. I thought this was an answer to my prayers. WRONG! Vern divorced me in 2012, Belleville, Kansas. I didn't see it coming, and I felt I didn't know this man at all. It was a nasty divorce. It didn't have to be, but he apparently felt it did. It took me some time to get over it, and maybe I still haven't.

more to come.

Digital Afterlife In the event of my untimely demise I want to be sure that none of my hard work on WikiTree ends up being deleted. While I fully intend on being around to manage all my profiles for the next 5 years or so, in the event of my sudden death I hereby give permission for all of my private profiles to be transferred to any of the following slightly-active WikiTreers in my family, whether or not they are currently on the trusted lists: Lynette Sportsman Venus Geisler Amy Simer Jeanna Walters-Fancella Kim Thompson

I am also the sole profile manager of a large number of profiles. The living ones are private only because WikiTree requires it; they contain only information easily available on the web. They can be passed off to any interested WikiTreer.

Hi Susan, you might want to join the Southern Pioneers Project. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Southern_Pioneers

Their going to have a Southern Pioneer Trail project, this looks interesting, so if you see stickers with Southern Pioneer on a profile page, it's me putting those stickers on, and I'll be working on sourcing so the trail can be verified.

Hi Susan,

Thank you for self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Participation in a Pre-1700 Project is strongly encouraged for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles. Collaboration is essential because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants.

It looks like the Quakers Project would be a good fit with the tag you entered. Having the tag Quakers will help you get updates about activity for that project.

Do you have any questions? Let me know. I'm happy to help! :-)
