About the Project

The Green Name Study project serves as a collaborative platform to collect information on the Green name. The hope is that other researchers like you will join the study to help make it a valuable reference point for other genealogists who are researching or have an interest in the Green name.

As a One Name Study, this project is not limited to persons who are related biologically. Individual studies can be used to branch out the research into specific methods and areas of interest, such as geographically (England Green's), by time period (18th Century Green's), or by topic (Green DNA, Green Occupations, Green Statistics). These studies may also include a number of family branches which have no immediate link with each other. Some researchers may even be motivated to go beyond the profile identification and research stage to compile fully sourced, single-family histories of some of the families they discover through this name study project.

My 'Green' researches have taken me back to Norfolk, UK, particularly around the Hassingham area. I can't quite work out how John Green (a continuous family Christian name) came to own half the land in the area.

I can get back continuously to about 1685 but the trail seems to be cold, though that John Green (probably married a Mary, maiden name unknown) could have been from Runham.

on two census William claims to have been born in Cowpens,SC and on one of those he says his father was born in NC and his other in SC

I'd like to join the Green project. My family line is as follows:

Don Curtis 1956 - living James Henry 1915 - 1964 John William 1894 - 1971 James Jackson 1856 - 1901 Berry 1829 - 1870 (Not sure if this was his middle name or first name) Also he was married to Mary Ann Waldrup 1831-1901 Not really sure anything before these dates, but I'm sure that there are some who can help.

My grandmother was Ethel Jane Anson nee Green, daughter of William Charles Green (abt 1860- 1944) and Mary Jane Green nee Rule (1862-1953). She was born in Marong, Victoria, Australia. I know she was one of a large family, but the only sibling I have been able to trace is Helen (Nelly) Irene (1894-1997). I'd welcome any information that fills in the gaps.

Yes, they are the right people. Who is the Anzac?

Regarding the Polsons, I am not aware that any of my direct ancestors emigrated to Australia, but I have only traced them back as far as my great great grandfather, and I have not traced all of the children so it is entirely possible. My great grandfather was Daniel Polson (1848-1918) and my great great grandfather was Alexander Rose Polson (1823-1904)

I have given you a start on WikiTree. Ive done Anson, Rule, Rawiller and gone 1 generation back from the Green's you Know. Given the poor responce. ive terminated any further research.

I'm interested in joining the Green name study. My earliest known ancestor is William Green b. 1790 in either New Brunswick, Canada or Aroostook County, Maine. This Green family lived right on the border between the 2 countries starting in the late 1700s. My ancestor is possibly the descendant of loyalists who came to New Brunswick after the Revolutionary War.

I'd like to join the Green name study. My 2nd great grandfather was Wm Robert Green born about 1854 and died about 1900. I have only been able to find one census on him and no other information. The one census says he was born in Missouri, and his family lived in the St. Clair County area. I hope by following this project I might be able to find some info.

My great grandmother is Lottie Pearl Barrett (Green) Gibbs (1895-1954) who married my great grandpa John Charles Gibbs (1894-1951) She was adopted by her grandparents Norman Barrett 1835-1918) and Charlotte Barrett (1835-1926) Her mother’s (Evalina Nora Barrett 1874-1897) parents. However she is of her father’s blood (she is William Charles Green’s daughter) and we have hit a brick wall with no further info on him. The area my Green family is from is Dickenson, Franklin County, New York, USA. This is where great grandma Lottie was born

I also have a Green(e) line: Cynthia "Siddy" Green(e) married to Ezekiel Brooks but they did not live together permanently. They had one son: Ezekiel Marion Brooks who married Catherine Amelia Letha Jane Byrd. 2nd Ezekiel Brooks moved his family to McKinney, Texas in 1892 selling the OLD "William Brooks" homeplace to a "Henry Hill". Lots of Brookes are buried on this property (Once the Brooks' Cemetary/now called Henry Hill Cemetary). Thank You.

I’m researching the Greens who came to San Francisco in 1847 after returning from the Mexican War and mustering out of the Army in Monterey. This group of brothers originated in Miramichi, New Brunswick, Canada.
