Biography

Susannah (Meador) Martin was born about 1764, in Otter Creek, Bedford, Virginia. She is the daughter of Joel Meador and Susannah Clark. She married William Martin 8 Dec 1782. She and William lived in the area of Bedford County Virginia that became Franklin County.

The Meador Family by Daniel Burton Meador shows Joel Meador Sr, b @ 1728, d 1798, will probated Jan 1804, Franklin Co VA. This will is transcribed in Raney collection, volume titled “Joel Meador”, p21. Will lists all children including daughter Susanna Martin whom he gifts a slave “Esther”. Codicil to sd will revokes gift of slave Esther to daughter Susanna, because he, Joel, thought her husband William would make bad use of the gift. Same volume, will of Susanna Meador widow of Joel , p 24. Her married daughters each are to receive $50, the brothers are to make payments.

Susannah (Meador) Martin, daughter of Joel & Susannah Meador migrated to Floyd KY, settled on Patton Branch of right fork of Beaver Crk, now Knox Co KY. Her husband, William Martin bought land from David Morgan 4 Dec 1808, DB 1, p8, this land in possession of family until 1960. William died @ 1832 leaving a will which was not recorded, but was contested that year. Susannah lived in 1850 in house of her youngest son John Martin and died before 1860.^[1]
