Biography
William was baptised on 10 May 1783 at St James, Slaithwaite, Yorkshire, "William of James Wood, Thorps, Slaithwaite".[1]
He married Betty Haigh on 21 April 1806 at Huddersfield. Both of that parish, both signed with a cross, witnesses Joseph Wood (probably his brother) and Edmund Haigh.[2][3]
Betty died in 1826 and William appears in the 1841 census at Maulshead, Longwood, as a clothier, with James aged 15 and Samuel 11.[4]
William died on 10 August 1855 aged 72[5] and was buried at Pole Moor Chapel, Scammonden, where his brothers Richard and Joseph were buried, on 14 August 1855.[6] His gravestone reads: "In Memory of Betty wife of William Wood of Maulshead Longwood who died October 2nd 1826 aged 40 years. Also of the above named William Wood who died August 10th 1855 aged 72 years.".[7]
