Tamar was born in 1792. She was the daughter of Joseph Wood and Mary Fisher. In 1816 she married John Potter and the couple had eight children, six surviving to adulthood. John was a farmer who grew up in his family residence at Woolah House, Fadmoor, Yorkshire. This is where the Potter family lived and Tamar died in 1833. She was returned to Gillamoor for burial with her parents in the churchyard of St. Aidan's. Her two young children with John Potter are also buried there.
