He married Diana Best on 20th Novemeber 1876 in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales.[2]

He died on April 26, 1927 in Manly, New South Wales, Australia.[3]

DEATH. TOMPSON.— April 26, 1927, at his re-sidence, 44 Fairlight-street Manly, Charles John, beloved husband of D. E. Tompson, in his 77th year, late of Sandy Creek Station, Wagga Wagga[4]

OBITUARY MR. C. J. TOMPSON For a great many years Mr. C. J. Tompson played an important part in the commercial and pastoral life of this district, and the news of his death on April 26 will be learned with great regret by the older generation, who knew him best. The death of Mr. Tompson took place at his home at 44 Fair light-street, Manly, where he has resided since he retired from business in Wagga, about 17 years ago. The late Mr. Tompson will be best remebered for his association with the commission agency business in Wagga. He was associated with the firm of Braim, Davidson, and Stevenson, and later with Braim, Tompson, and Davidson. At a later date the firm's name was changed again to Tompson, Manning and Jeremy, and with the retire ment of MV. Manning the firm was controlled by the late Mr. Tompson and Mr. John Jeremy, under the title of Tompson and Jeremy, Mr. Tompson selling out eventually to Mr. Jeremy, who carried on as Jeremy and Co. for several years until he too retired, selling out his interest to Mr. J. M. Dunn. Mr. Tompson acquired valuable pastoral interests when he and the late Mr. W. H. Rolls purchased from Best Bros, the we'll known Sandy Creek Station. Under the direct management of Mr. Rolls in close association with Mr. Tompson, Sandy Creek was splendidly developed and, proved a very sound investment for its owners. With the, spread of closer settlement Sandy Creek was subdivided and sold in a number of very desirable farming blocks. Mr. Rolls moved out into the Lachlan country where he acquired pastoral interests, and Mr. Tompson eventually retired into private life at Manly. He leaves a widow and a grown up family, and was at the time of his death 77 years of age.[5]
