Mrs. W, Rand's Death. Referring to the death of Mrs. Rand, sister of Mrs. A. M. Betts, the Daily Telegraph says :-The sad accident by which Mrs. W. Rand lost her life on Thursday eeaning at the Arncliffe railway station has caused widespread regret throughout the suburban district, where the deceased lady was well known and highly respected. From what can be gathered, it appears that Mrs. Rand overbalanced when getting out of the train from Sydney, and, being touched by the cars, was dragged along for some 15 yards between the platform and the train. Her injuries consisted mainly of broken ribs and serious internal complications, which caused her death shortly after she had been removoed to her home. The deceased lady was 59 years of age, and a native of the colony. An inquest was held at the Highbury Barn Hotel, Arneliffe, when a verdict of accidental death was returned Much sympathy is felt for Mr. W. Rand, sen., who is somewhat ad-vanced in years. He is a brother of the late Mr. R. Rand (of Mahouga), a prominent pasteraliet.[4]
