Quoting "New England Historic Genealogical Register," vol. 140, Apr 1986, page 114 "[Samuel Howland, He married first 28 Nov. 1723 Sarah Soule (ibid., 2:260), who was born at Dartmouth, 8 Nov. 1703 (ibid., 1:258), the seventh of eleven children of William (George, George) and Hannah (---) Soule. Sarah (Soule) Howland died early, between 1741 and 1748. Harding, George Soule, 75, 76, states "prob. 26 March 1746" citing VRRI:10:82 (James N. Arnold, ed., Vital Record of Rhode Island 1636-1850 [Providence, R.I., 1891], hereafter Arnold's VR) which reference records the death from the "Westport Record of Friends" of "Howland Sarah, widow of William," There is no conflict with another Sarah Howland; the date of death is reasonable and, probably, correct; if so, obviously, the reference in Arnold should read either "wife of Samuel" or "daughter of William Soule."]"
