Biography

Jonathan Soule, son of William Soule and Hannah (Eaton) Soule, was born in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, 15 Dec 1710.^[1][2]

He married Lydia Sisson on 12 Feb 1736. She was daughter of Richard and Mehitable (Fish?) Sisson. She was born in Dartmouth 8 Sep 1714 and died thereafter 2 Oct 1779.^[1]

20 May 1732. Jonathan, son of William deceased, sold land .^[1]

24 Jan 1765. Jonathan Sowle, of Dartmouth, hatter, and wife Lydia gave homestead farm to their son James Sowle of Dartmouth^[1]

12 Jan 1767. Jonathan Sowle, of Dartmouth, hattter, and wife Lydia gave land in Darmouth to Joseph Sowle, of Dartmouth, their son.^[1]

9 Aug 1777 Jonathan Sowle, of Dartmouth, yeoman, and wife Lydia sold his homestead farm to David Sowle of Dartmouth, mariner.^[1]

Jonathan died in Dartmouth before 2 Nov 1779, when his will was proved in court.^[1]

He made a will 02 October 1779, Proved: 02 November 1779. "He gives to wife Lydia, use of the homestead farm; son Joseph, 250 Spanish milled dollars, son Jonathan, land and 300 Spanish milled dollars, son James, 10 silver dollars, son David, all my homestead farm; daughter Susanna Russell, daughter Thankful, half the moveables if she continued to outlive her mother & half of what my homestead farm will rent yearly, while single; daughter Mary Tripp, what I have lent her and 10 silver dollars; son Jethro, all my upland and marsh bought of S. Howland, and meadow bought of James Sowle as executor of Benjamin Sowle deceased. Son Jonathan to be executor."^[3]

8. ? Jethro ? Mayflower book, does not list him as a child, stating he is called son in Jonathan's will. They speculate that he may be a son of daughter Mary or Thankful (raised as a son) or he may be grandson Jethro, son of Joseph.^[1] There was a letter written by Jethro Soule (grandson of Joseph) in 1897 that confirmed much of the known information. It did not mention this son Jethro.^[3]

While there is a record of Jonathan in Findagrave.com at memorial # 140294247 his burial place is unknown and it is listed as such, at this time, as of 1 Sep 2018. pmw
