Biography

William was a Friend (Quaker)

William was born 28 Aug 1692, in Dartmouth, Massachusetts.[1] He is the son of William Soule and probably Hannah Eaton.[2][3]

William married 19 March 1717/8 in Dartmouth Rachel Allen (* Jan 1692/3-after 18 Nov 1735), daughter of Increase and Rachel (___) Allen.[4][2] Increase Allen's 1722 will names Rachel Soule one of his daughters as heir. An accounting of the estate in 1728 shows a payment to George Soule "of the legacy"[2][5]

He is likely the William Soule who on 15d 12m 1719/20 [15 Feb 1720] acknowledged before the Dartmouth monthly meeting for “going to the westward privately without the advice of friends.”[6] The acknowledgement is as follows:[6]

I Do acknowledge that my going to the westward and not first acquainting friends thereof was Contrary to the order of friends and I am Sorry that it happened so and hope that I shall be more careful for the Time to come - William Soule

On 6 Oct 1722, William Soul of Dartmouth, yeoman, and Hannah his wife gave their son William Soule of Dartmouth, weaver, land in Dartmouth, including the house they lived in.[2]

On 12 Jan 1726/7, Samuel Crandall of Little Compton sold to William Soule of Dartmouth 145 acres in Tiverton. 18 Dec 1728, William Soule of Little Compton, weaver bouth land in Little Compton. 6 Jan 1729/30 William of Little Compton, innholder, sold land in Little Compton. 7 Aug 1729 (acknowledged 1733) William Soule and wife Rachel sold land in Little Compton. 8 March 1730/1 William of Tiverton, sold land in Tiverton. [2]

William was cited 19 4th mo 1732 by the Dartmouth Monthly Meeting "for abusing his wife, getting drunk, etc." He was swiftly disowned 28 4th mo 1732.[2]

He died in Tiverton, Rhode Island before 29 Oct 1734, when widow Rachel Sole, was made executrix of his intestate estate. She rendered her account 18 Nov 1735.[2]
