Biography

Caterina Soldano is born and baptized 19 September 1805 in Corleone. She is the daughter of Maestro Giuseppe Soldano and Antonia Greco, a married couple from Monreale. Her godparents are Salvatore and Serafina Soldano, brother and sister.

In 1807 Caterina, age two (b. 1805), lives with her parents sotto il Carmine, under via Carmine.

She and her brother, Maestro Alberto, stand as godparents to Biagia Maniscalco in 1828.

Caterina marries at least twice, first to Maestro Gaetano Piazza on 1 March 1829. Her father is living, and her mother has died by this time.

Caterina and Gaetano have two known children: Maria Teresa Innocenza (1829) and Gaetano (1832).

Maria Teresa Innocenza is born and baptized 31 December 1829. Her godparents are Antonino and Carmela Piazza, brother and sister.

Gaetano dies, reportedly at age 32 (he is not yet 25) on 9 October 1831. Caterina survives him.

Gaetano, the younger, is born and baptized on 23 March 1832.The son is named in his father's memory. His godparents are Emmanuele and Lucia Soldano, brother and sister.

The infant Gaetano dies on 24 May 1832 at two months of age.

Caterina marries for the second time to Stefano Pollara (or Bollara), who is also a widower, on 30 April 1833. By this time, Caterina's parents have both died.

Caterina and Stefano have at least four children: Maria Antonia (1834), Francesca Paola (1835), Calogero (1837), and Stefana (1837).

Maria Antonia is born 6 July 1834 and baptized the next day. She may be named after her maternal grandmother. Her godparents are Salvatore and Paola Trizzino, father and daughter.
Francesca Paola is born and baptized 13 July 1835. Her godparents are Giuseppe Luca and Nicolena Catalinotto, a married couple.
Calogero is born and baptized on 9 January 1837. His godparents are Giovanni and Serafina Ficarrotta, a married couple.

Calogero dies on 17 January, at eight days of age.

Maestro Stefano dies at age 43 (b. 1794) on 12 August 1837, the summer of the first recorded cholera outbreak in western Europe. Caterina survives him.

Stefana is born and baptized three months later, on 29 November, and named in her father's memory. Her godparents are Pietro Bono and Maria Giandalone, wife of Pasquale.

Stefana dies at age four (b. 29 Nov 1837) on 26 August 1841.
