John James Morgan was born about July 20, 1849 in Tennessee, United States, 4 child and 1st son of John Baxter Morgan (1818–1885) and Mary Susan Lambert (1821–1901). He died on April 1, 1923, in Graves, Kentucky, at the age of 73, and was buried in Mayfield, Kentucky.

John, 74 died on 3 Apr 1923 at the home of his sister, Elizabeth (Morgan) Cargill as a result of a stroke from 13 years ago (1910) that resulted in paralysis. Surviving are 4 daughters and 2 sons.[9]
Funeral services were held Tue, April 3, 1923. He is interred at Robbins Cemetery, Mayfield..[10]
John was mentioned in a Sons of the American Revolution Membership Application on 31 Mar 1949.[11]
