Biography

To the Pursuit and love of History and Trivia

For those that were born, lived and died in the early to mid 19th Century--it was neither--easy or safe in America, least of all for those that had large families - my family history is no exception. During Mary Susan's lifetime (1821-1901), she would experience the birth of 13 children (all but 2 made it to adulthood, some data is unavailable as to DOD so this is my best guess). Our pioneering families ate what they grew, shot, caught or butchered themselves (fast food was considered "farm to table"). They grew their own vegetables, butchered their own meat, canned their own jams & vegetables. They might experience disease without cures, Indian attacks, droughts, fires, poverty, wars, family members lost or traumatically injured during war. She would live through the reconstruction era (1865-1877), some of the market revolution (early 1800's-1900's), live through the 1st Industrial Revolution (1750-1850), most of the 2nd (1850-1914) (inventions would be patented that made a women's homelife easier), Financial Panic of 1857. Her immediate family or relatives would have been veterans (as a Veteran, I thank all those that served on the field and off the field) of the Mexican-American War (1846-1848), Civil War (1861-1865), and Mary was a proud member of Sons of the American Revolution (her husband and son were on the application. Families were dying from dropsy, influenza, milk sickness, puerperal fever, rickets, ship fever or epidemic typhus, TB, tetanus, typhoid fever, whooping cough and yellow fever. During Mary Susan's lifetime, there were 21 Presidents (3 would be assassinated: Lincoln 1865, Garfield 1881, McKinley 1901). Laws/Acts would eventually be passed that made living in America easier/happier (at least on paper), Emancipation Act of 1862 (Slavery), Homestead Act of 1862 (home ownership).[1]

Mary Susan Lambert was born on 19 Apr 1821 in Lunenberg, Virginia (founded 1 May 1746. In 1784, Virginia ceded area to the United States that became the Northwest Territory in 1787. Virginia ratified the U.S. Constitution on 26 Jun 1788; it was the tenth of the original 13 states to join the Union. At the time of statehood, Virginia included all of present-day Kentucky and West Virginia.)

She was the proud 4th child & 1st daughter of Joel Peter Lambert and Elsy Elizabeth (Eliza) Wright.

She married John Baxter Morgan on 26 Nov 1842 in Brunswick, Virginia.

They had thirteen children during their marriage.

She died in 1901 in Mayfield, Graves, Kentucky, at the age of 79.
