Biography

Rosalia Marino (often spelled Rosolia in church records) is a bottegara (shopkeeper), born 10 April 1834[1] in Corleone. She is the daughter of Calogero Marino and Caterina Cusimano.

Rosalia marries Antonino Castro, also a shopkeeper, on 28 April 1851. Her parents are both still living at this time.[2]

Rosalia and Antonino have at least seven children together: Angelo (1852), Calogero (1853), Giuseppe (1855), Santa (1858), Maria Santa (1859), and two daughters named Caterina (1861 and 1863).

Angelo, born in 1852[3] and Santa, born in 1858[4] are named after Antonino's parents.

Calogero, named after his maternal grandfather, is born in 1853.[5]

Giuseppe is born in 1856.[6]

Maria Santa is born in 1859, also named after her father's mother.[7]

Rosalia's father, Calogero, dies on 13 April 1860, age 55.[8]

The first daughter named Caterina[9], after her Rosalia's mother, dies on 8 July 1862 at seven months of age.[10]

The second Caterina is born in 1863.[11]

Death of Rosalia

Rosalia dies in the home of her mother[12], on 4 June 1865.[13] She is 30 years old.

Antonino remarries, to Rosalia's younger sister, Luigia (b. 1848), on 10 March 1867. Their marriage allegati includes a dispensation.[14]

At least three of Rosalia's children go on to marry.

Maria Santa marries Vincenzo di Carlo in 1879.[15] Her marriage allegati include her birth record.
Calogero marries Rosalia Lombardo of San Cipirrello on 10 September 1880.[16] His marriage allegati do not include any birth records.

Caterina dies, reportedly at 23 years of age (actually only 20 years old), on 9 September 1884. She is unmarried.[17]

Giuseppe marries Maria Rosa di Carlo on 10 February 1885. Maria Rosa is the sister of Vincenzo, married to Maria Santa.[18]

Vincenzo and Maria Santa have a younger half brother, Pietro, who marries his niece, the daughter of Vincenzo and Maria Santa, in New York.

Antonino dies in the US, having immigrated 24 June 1897.[1]
