Vincenzo di Carlo is a butcher (macellajo)[1], the son of Giuseppe di Carlo, age 30 (b. 1822), who is also a butcher, and Marianna Saporito, age 27 (b. 1825). He is born 22 June 1852 in his parents' home in via S. Agostino, Corleone[2], and named after his maternal grandfather.
Vincenzo and Maria Santa Castro marry, each for the first time, on 10 November 1879.[3][4]
Vincenzo and Santa (she is sometimes recorded with only the second of her given names, suggesting the name by which she is informally known) have thirteen children together, seven boys and five girls survive. Caterina a stillborn was born in April 1886.[1]: Antonino (1881)[5], Giuseppe (1880), Rosa (1885)[6], Marianna (c. 1885), two daughters named Caterina (1886 and 1895), Giovanni (1887)[7], , Francesco (1893), Luigia (1889)[8], Angelo (1891)[9] Salvatore (1897), Maria Concetta (1899), and Calogero (1901).
Santa's brother, Giuseppe, and Vincenzo's sister, Rosa, marry on 10 February 1885.
Antonino and Giovanni are known from their baptismal records.
The first daughter named Caterina is known from the record of her death in infancy.[10] She is named after a maternal aunt who dies as a young woman in 1884.
I estimate Marianna is born around 1885, twenty years before she marries. She is named after her paternal grandmother.
Luigia is born 22 September 1889 and baptized three days later. Her godmother is her maternal aunt Rosa Castro, unmarried daughter of Antonino.
Angelo is born 8 February 1891 and baptized twelve days later. His godfather is Michaele Moscato, who is unmarried.[11]
The second daughter named Caterina is born 8 May 1895 and baptized ten days later. Her godmother is the unmarried Francesca Castro.[12] Francesca is Maria Santa's younger half-sister, and goddaughter.
Salvatore is born 10 April 1897 and baptized nearly a month later, on 2 May. His godfather is the unmarried Giliberto Bentivegna.[13]
Maria Concetta is born 1 June 1899 and baptized on the 26th. Her godparents are Mariano Colletti and Caterina Cascio, a married couple.[14]
All seven boys---Antonino (Nino), Giuseppe (Piddu), Giovanni (John), Angelo (Capitano), Francesco (Ciccio), Salvatore (Toto), and Calogero (Leo or Lelio) immigrate to the United States. All but Angelo die there. [1]
Marianna marries Giuseppe Piazza on 7 October 1905.[15]
Rosa marries her uncle Pietro Castro in New York, at the Church of Carmine, on 20 June 1913.
A note on Luigia's baptismal record says that Luigia marries Antonino Castro from San Cipirrello on 20 October 1913 in New York, in the same church as Rosa.[8]
