Biography

Percy & Esther had their third child in the Hawthorn area, and moved house many times eventually having 6 more children. Two of their babies died very young and close together of Diptheria or scarlet fever. Jack (the youngest) can remember as a child having pneumoniea, being told by his father that he would not last he night, and they were very sorry about it, but he was going to die, he lived till his 90's!! Their dog (in photo at Belgrave holiday) was named "Snodger" Jean recalls being named after a horse her father bet money from selling two houses on called Jean Evelyn, Jean was their 8th Child.

During the Depression in 42 Percy found work as a grip-man (driver) on the trams, also a painter mixing his own paints - whitelead, turps, oil etc and som grass cutting with a scythe. He died of liver Cancer at 74yrs of age, 2yrs after Esther king's death.

Age of 9 years had to start work, Queen Victoria was on throne, child labour permitted, confirmed at age 15 St Marks Church in Pontville in 1895 (few Km's from Green Ponds North of Hobart, her Gparents farm was in Bagdad, had pigs and made Black puddings. Benjamin dev Parkinsons disease late in life. Granny adkins managed the grandchildren alone, both lived to old age.

Esther worked for Mayor & Mayoress of Sth Melbourne, Nanny to their 7 children. Their surname: Hartley - later one lived close to Jean & Noel. Esther said she was frozen at night, scarcely was there bedclothes provided, and often slept in clothes and boots just to not be able to sleep., then worked in NSW at Lewisham caring for 4 children inc. twin girls an Olive & Robert Flowers. (born 1893-1887era Percy was married to Esther Ida Flowers in 1898. Esther left that job and Percy left Ms Esther flowers to Marry Esther King settled in Grovedale, Geelong. Connie born in Caulfield Mabel in Geelong 1902, 1903 moved to Melbourne, Don born in Malvern, taking maid Maggie with them. Jack Dux of Armadale school. Syd Morton chose middle name for himself - Sebastapol. Esther's specialty in cooking was Rhubarb Fule & Black Puddings. Esther visited her sister Lily & Gparents Granny Adkins & Ben in Tasmania. Elizabeth d Hobart 1919 Ben in Bagdad 1901.
