Henry Hemken was born on 02 Jul 1885 in Walshville, Montgomery Co., Illinois as the fifth child of Egge Jansen Hemken Hemken-17 and Emma Anna Maria Elizabeth Strohkirch Strohkirch-2. He had five siblings, namely: Elizabeth "Lizzie", George, Anna, William, and Chris.
When he was 22, he married Ada Vena Vogel Vogel-822, daughter of William Mathias Vogel and Mary Emaline Evans, on 15 Jan 1908 in Hillsboro, Montgomery Co., Illinois. They had six children.
