Anna Hemken was born on 26 Sep 1878 in Fosterburg, Madison Co., Illinois as the third child of Egge Jansen Hemken Hemken-17 and Emma Anna Maria Elizabeth Strohkirch Strohkirch-2. She had five siblings, namely: Elizabeth "Lizzie", George, William, Henry, and Chris.
When she was 20, she married John Louis Vogel, son of Louis A. Vogel and Caroline Lena Miller, on 05 Apr 1899 in Donnellson, Montgomery Co., Illinois. They had two daughters: Bertha Melvina and Mary Cary Vogel.
