Alice was born in West Hempfield Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She was 19 when she married George S. Shubrooks, 21, on Christmas Day, 1896 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. It was the first marriage for both parties. The Rev. G.W. Getz officiated. At the time, Alice and George were both residents of Lancaster City, Pennsylvania. George was employed as a clerk. [2]
In 1900 Alice lived at 120 Broad Street, Lancaster City, Pennsylvania. The household included George, 25, born May 1875, a grocery salesman, who rented the family home; his wife Alice, 23, born March 1877, who had had one child, and had been married to George for three years; their infant son George, born May 1900; and Alice’s father, George Heisler, widowed, 60, born April 1840, a stone mason. The adults could all read and write. All members of the household were born in Pennsylvania, as were their parents, according to Cenus data. [3]
Alice’s husband George registered for the WWI draft on 12 September 1918 in Lancaster, PA. He was living with his wife Alice Elizabeth Shubrooks at 717 N. Plum, Lancaster, Lancaster, PA. George was 43, born on 8 May 1875 in Pennsylvania. He was self employed, and ran a mercantile business at his home address. He was 5’10”, of medium build, with grey eyes, and light hair. [4]
Alice died in 1962 at age 84-85. She is buried with her husband George in Greenwood Cemetery, Lancaster, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Also buried there is their infant son, and son George Edwin and his wife. [5]
