Biography

In 1870, Reuben lived with his family in West Hempfield, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The household included George, 30, a farmer whose father was of foreign birth, and who had $150 in personal assets; his wife Anna E. (Elizabeth), 28; their son Reuben, 2; Annie Shissler (Elizabeth’s daughter), 8, in school, and with $600 in personal assets (probably her father’s Civil War death benefits); Benjamin L. Hempfield, 17, who worked the farm, and Charles Heisler, 22, with $100 in personal assets. Reuben and Ellie/Robert were in school. All members of the household were born in Pennsylvania. ^[1]

In 1880 Reuben lived in East Hempfield, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The household included George, (40), a stone mason; his wife Lizzie, 39; their two children Ellie (Robert), 6; and Alice, 3; George’s father, 69, listed as Heisler Heisler; and Annie Shissler, 18, George’s stepdaughter (Elizabeth’s daughter), who was working as a servant. All members of the household were born in Pennsylvania. ^[2]

Reuben died in 1895 at the age of 27. He is buried in Landisville Reformed Mennonite Cemetery, Landisville, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. ^[3]
