George is the son of Joseph and Rebecca (Finfrock) Heisler, and the stepson of Sarah (Finfrock) Heisler. In 1860, George was a blacksmith. George was a Civil War veteran. He enlisted 27 August 1864 as a Private, Co. K, 7th PA Calvary (80th PA). During the war, he was admitted to US Hospital #8 in Nashville, Tennessee, transferred the next day to the facility at Gallatin, TN, then later ordered back to Harrisburg PA. George married Elizabeth A. Reese in 1866. They had at least three children. George is buried in the Landisville Reformed Mennonite Cemetery, Landisville, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. [1]

(Elizabeth), 28; their son Reuben, 2; Annie Shissler (Elizabeth’s daughter), 8, in school, and with $600 in personal assets (probably her father’s Civil War death benefits); Benjamin L. Hempfield, 17, who worked the farm, and Charles Heisler, 22, with $100 in personal assets. Reuben and Ellie/Robert were in school. All members of the household were born in Pennsylvania. [3]

The household included George, (40), a stone mason; his wife Lizzie, 39; their children, Reuben, 12; Ellie (Robert), 6; and Alice, 3; George’s father, 69, listed as (no name) Heisler, single; and Annie Shissler, 18, George’s stepdaughter (Elizabeth’s daughter), who was working as a servant. All members of the household were born in Pennsylvania. [4] NOTE: George’s father died in 1865. The person listed as (no name) Heisler, 69 is likely his mother. The gender box was originally marked Female, then changed to Male. His mother was born in 1811, which fits.
In 1900 George Heisler, 60, lived at 120 Broad Street, Lancaster City, Pennsylvania. The household included George Shubrooks, 25, born May 1875, a grocery salesman, who rented the family home; his wife Alice, 23, born March 1877, who had had one child, and had been married to George for three years; their infant son George, born May 1900; and Alice’s father, George Heisler, widowed, 60, born April 1840, a stone mason. The adults could all read and write. All members of the household were born in Pennsylvania, as were their parents, according to Cenus data. [5]
