Biography

Joseph Heisler, 1807 Wirttemburg, Germany ~ 1865 New Providence, Pennsylvania, was the husband of Rebecca Finefrock (born 1808 Lancaster, PA). They had twelve children, born between 1829 and 1856 (‘57), including twins, Amos and Maria. [1] NOTE: this collection has some biographical errors, but it does contain many sourced references. I have omitted the biographical errors on this profile.

In 1850, the Heisler family lived in Martic Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. All members of the household were born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, except as noted. The family included Joseph Heisler, 45, born in Europe, a laborer, with $800 in real estate; his wife, Rebecca, 42; their children, Joseph, 18; Sarah, 19; Benjamin, 15, in school; Albert, 13, in school; Hiram, 5; George, 9, in school; Charles, 2; and Henry, two months. [2]

In 1860, the Heisler family lived on their farm in Providence Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. All members of the household were born in Pennsylvania, except as noted. The household included Joseph Heisler, 53, born in Wirtemburg (Germany), a farmer, with $2500 in real estate and $400 in personal estate; his children, all in school except the eldest one and the youngest two: Sarah, 26; Lewis, 18; Hiram, 16; Charles, 12; Calvin, 10; Amos, 4; and Maria, 4. Also living with them was Benjamin Hempeel, 10, in school. [3]

Joseph Heisler, 1805 Germany - 1865 Pennsylvania (60), is buried with his wife, Rebecca (Finefrock), 1811-1880, and sons Amos and Lewis, at Zion United Church of Christ Cemetery, Strasburg, Pennsylvania. [4] Their son, Albert, a civil war veteran, and his wife are buried in Long Beach, California. Another son, Joseph H., is buried with his wife at Atglen, Pennsylvania.
