Angelo Gagliano is born 11 April 1878 in Corleone, Sicily, and baptized three days later. He is the son of Bernardo Gagliano and Ignazia Serra. His godfather is Nicolo' Marullo, who is unmarried.[1]
According to his declaration of intent to become a United States citizen, Angelo arrived in New York 13 March 1899.[2]
According to a transcription of a civil marriage record, Angelo marries Angelina Parety, daughter of Giovanni Parety and Maria Garcia, on 19 December 1900 in Manhattan.[3] Subsequent records suggest that Angelo marries Carmela Parisi around this time.
Angelo and Carmela have at least four children: Ignazia (1902), Domenica (1906), Francesco (1908), and Peter C. (c. 1909).
Ignazia is born 14 July 1902 in Manhattan, daughter of Angelo Gagliano, age 24 (b. 1878), and Carmela Parise Gagliano, 19 (b. 1883), both born in Italy.[4] She is named after her paternal grandmother, traditional for the first born daughter.
On 27 February 1903, Angelo Gagliano of 233 E. 107th St., New York City, born in Italy, swears his intention to become a naturalized citizen, in the Circuit Court of the United States for the Southern District of New York. He was born in 1878. Immigrated, landing on 13 March 1899.[2]
In the 1905 New York state census of Manhattan, taken 1 June, Angelo Gagliano heads a household at 240 107th St. He is 24 (b. 1881), born in Italy, been in the US for 6 years (imm. 1899), and is a plasterer. His wife, Carmela, is 21 (b. 1884) and has been in the US for 5 years (imm. 1900). She is a dressmaker. Their children at home were born in the US: Ignazia, 3 (b. 1902), and Bernard, ten months (b. Aug 1904). Also in the home is Ignazia Serra, 52 (she is 54, born 22 Apr 1851), Angelo’s mother; she has been in the US for 2 years (imm. 1903). His brothers Simon Gagliano, 21 (b. 1884), and Francesco Gagliano, 18 (b. 1887), both born in Italy, both plasterers. Simon has been in the US for 5 years (imm. 1900), Francesco for 3 (imm. 1902). Ignazia Gagliano, 9 (b. Dec 1895), born in Italy, has been in the US for 2 years (imm. 1903); she is Angelo’s niece.[5]
Domenica is born 8 April 1906 in Manhattan, daughter of Angelo Gagliano, age 28 (b. 1877-8), born in Italy, and Carmela Parisi Gagliano, 22 (b. 1883-4), also born in Italy.[6]
Francesco is born 22 December 1908 in Manhattan, son of Angelo Gagliano, age 29 (b. 1879), and Carmela Parisi, 24 (b. 1884), both born in Italy.[7]
Peter is born around 1909 in New York City, based on his reported age at marriage.
In 1912, he lives at 231 E. 107th St. in New York with Stefano LaSalle and future son-in-law Vincent Rao.[8]
Angelo Gagliano of 231 E. 107th St. is naturalized on 6 July 1912.[9]
He employs Nicholas Sylvester, a wagon driver for Giuseppe Morello's counterfeiting operation, as a plasterer, at 231 E 107th St.[10]
Domenica marries Vincenzo Rao, son of Antonino Rao and Liboria Colletti, on 8 August 1922 in New York City.[11]
In 1924, Angelo is in a business partnership that buys the former Murder Stable once owned by Greco, who was killed in 1915.
Peter C. Gagliano, age 24 (b. 1909), born in NYC, son of Angelo Gagliano and Carmela Parisi, marries Wilhelmina E. Stute, age 22 (b. 1911) born in NYC, daughter of Louis Stute and Winifred Canton, on 22 May 1933 in Manhattan.[12]
Angelo Gagliano of 2264 Hughes Av., Bronx, registers for the draft for WWII. He is 64, born 11 April 1878 in Palermo, Italy. His nearest contact is Mrs. Carmela Gagliano at the same address. Angelo is self employed at 645 Hughes Av in the Bronx. The registrar describes him on 5 April 1942 as standing 5’1” and weighing 170#, with brown eyes, gray hair, and a light complexion.[13]
Angelo dies in 1954 in the Bronx.[8]
