On 9 November 1886, Bernardo Gagliano, age 52 (b. 1824), brickmason (murifabro), reports the birth on 8 November of a baby to Ignazia Serra, his wife, in their home in via Misericordia, #23, Corleone. The baby is a boy and is named Francesco Gagliano.[1]
Francesco is baptized the day after his birth. His godparents are Domenico Serra and his sister, Vincenza, both unmarried.[2]
In the 1905 New York state census of Manhattan, taken 1 June, Angelo Gagliano heads a household at 240 107th St. He is 24 (b. 1881), born in Italy, been in the US for 6 years (imm. 1899), and is a plasterer. His wife, Carmela, is 21 (b. 1884) and has been in the US for 5 years (imm. 1900). She is a dressmaker. Their children at home were born in the US: Ignazia, 3 (b. 1902), and Bernard, ten months (b. Aug 1904). Also in the home is Ignazia Serra, 52 (she is 54, born 22 Apr 1851), Angelo’s mother; she has been in the US for 2 years (imm. 1903). His brothers Simon Gagliano, 21 (b. 1884), and Francesco Gagliano, 18 (b. 1887), both born in Italy, both plasterers. Simon has been in the US for 5 years (imm. 1900), Francesco for 3 (imm. 1902). Ignazia Gagliano, 9 (b. Dec 1895), born in Italy, has been in the US for 2 years (imm. 1903); she is Angelo’s niece.[3]
On 5 April 1906 in Manhattan, Francesco Gagliano, age 20 (b. 1886) born in Italy, son of Bernardo Gagliano and Ignazia Serra, marries Rosina Colletti, 18 (b. 1888), born in Italy, daughter of Vincenzo Colletti and Giovanna Deggidio[4] [Di Giglia]. Rosina is also from Corleone.
