I see confusion-- which was supposedly Cherokee? John D Carroll's mother or wife? The mother and daughter appear to have the same name. We've demonstrated that his wife was white on the 1850 census, and there has been found a 1797 marriage bond for them. His wife's name at their marriage was Nancy King.

Just a note that Stokes, N.C. is about 400 miles from the Cherokee Nation.

Would this be when the country was divided differently or now. Cherokees lived every where in that area with white people. We have plenty of history books about the area.
