According to tradition and several books that have been written about the first settler in Scott County, TN, "Grand Mikey " known as Mikel Lowe arrived and claimed Smokey Creek. There was a Cherokee Indian and his squaw living there as well. Grand Mikey kept noticing when he went for water at the watering hole that the Indian Brave kept watching him in a threatening manner. Mikel thought he will kill me one day with his bow and arrow. Mikey thought I must shoot him before he kills me. The next time Mikel Lowe went to the watering hole Lowe he killed the Indian Brave. That creek is named the Indian waterhole. The Squaw and her child remained in the area. They stayed in the white settlement, they had been banished from their Cherokees people. While they lived in the white settlement they had several half- breed children, She married Phillip Lowe Sr, and one of her daughters, Sarah Carroll (1808-1862) was the first wife of Madison Kennedy. Madison and Sarah made their home on top of Bootjack Mountain, in the old mountain footpath from Shea to Smokey Creek.
Note: Sarah Nancy Carroll married Philip Lowe, Born 1802. Philip Lowe's father is "Grand Mickey" Michael Lau/Low/Lowe.

Do you know if anyone has won the chromosome lottery and has seen one of the big testing companies like 23andMe, FTDNA, and Ancestry (where I happen to work) give them a percentage of Indigenous American origins/ethnicity in the company's estimate? I'm from your European lines like the Lowes, but I know I have cousins who enrolled as either Eastern Cherokee or were transported to Indian Territory.
Thanks for all you do!
Cousin Karen
Thank you, Cousin Nancy
I don't have any ancestors that have Eastern Cherokee ties, although I have some cousins who were enrolled from the Vann family. It would be fascinating to see whether your y-DNA is closer to Charles Lowe, a descendant of Phillip like your husband, or to my late brother Ray Lowe, a descendant of Michael Jr. I happen to lead the DNA Project here at WikiTree, so let me know how I can help!
