Children of Philippa, Countess of Stafford

Hello all,

While I was writing the biography for Philippa's mother Katherine, I was checking the profiles of each of Katherine's children as I listed them when I came across a discrepency in regards to Philippa's own children. This is what I have according to the Dictionary of National Biography for Ralph de Stafford:

He married Philippa, second daughter of Thomas de Beauchamp, earl of Warwick (d. 1369), who predeceased him, and had by her, besides Sir Ralph, four sons—Thomas who succeeded him as third Earl of Stafford, and died in 1392; William, fourth earl, who died in 1395; Edmund, fifth earl, who was killed in the battle of Shrewsbury on 21 July 1403, fighting on the king's side, and was father of Humphrey Stafford, first duke of Buckingham [q. v.]—and three daughters, Margaret, wife of Ralph Neville, first earl of Westmorland [q. v.]; Catherine, wife of Michael de la Pole, third earl of Suffolk, and Joan, married after her father's death to Thomas Holland, duke of Surrey [q. v.]

However, Philippa's WikiTree profile also has her connected as the mother to Ann, Elizabeth, Hugh, and Joane. The Humphrey (first duke of Buckingham) mentioned in the text is connected to her also, though he was the son of Philippa's son Edmund rather than of her.

I would like to disconnect this Humphrey and have him merged into the pre-existing profile for him which is correctly linked to Edmund, and I believe that despite the different birth dates, Joane should be merged into Joan, though of course these could be incorrect courses of action and I'll take any advice given to me. What should I do in regards to the other children?

The DNB quote says 4 sons but only names 3.  I expect Hugh was the 4th, though bizarrely Complete Peerage mentions him sitting as Baron Bourchier without saying who his parents were

CP Vol V appendix A (p. 753) quotes Dugdale calling Hugh (husband of Elizabeth Bourchier) "a younger son of Hugh Earl of Stafford", in a list of barons summoned in right of their wives.

Elizabeth is very popular in PRF.  Most entries don't know who her husband John Ferrers was, but a few place him as Ferrers-379, which would mean Elizabeth is a misplaced version of her aunt.

The Humphrey you mentioned (Stafford-395) has the dates for William, 4th Earl of Stafford (Stafford-394) so I proposed that merge, and both Joans.

Elizabeth Stafford-328 has the same spouse as Stafford-55, so I went with that merge. I think that's all of them, thanks for your help cleaning this up!

Thank you! It's not a problem; I'm going through Katherine's children as I write her biography, and I plan to work on the rest of the Beauchamps after I've finished (I'm taking them on as a house assignment) :D I'm glad it could be sorted out!
