More information (such as G.H. LaPointe's wikitree profile) would always be helpful in providing any degree of confidence that we are looking at records for the right persons, particularly identifying what known information you are working from.
As far as I can tell there are at least 4 distinct George Henry La Pointe's in Michigan at various times: (1) The one born in 1889 to August and Nancy, (2) the one born in Oct 1895 who registered in the draft at Detroit in 1942, (3) The one born in Bay City, who records on his 1917 Draft registration that he was born 18 Oct 1917. Based on his reported age of 22 he should was actually born about 1895, and is likely the same as person 2. (4) The one born in 1857 that arrives 1930 in Detroit from Essex, Ontario to join his son William, of Detroit. (5) One born in 1875 who is found in California.
Since your question ties the LaPointe family you are interested in to Alpena, MI, here is what I have found, although I question if this is the correct family as you will see.
A George LaPoint appears in the 1900 Census of Alpena City, Alpena, MI. The household consists of the head, Nancy Benoise (b. Oct 1857, Canada (Fr)), son George LaPoint (b. Feb 1889, Michigan) and Daughter Minnie LaPoint (b. J[an?] 1892, Michigan. The record indicates Nancy has had 8 children and 6 are living, and that she emigrated to the U.S. in 1873. Also given is the fact that she is married for 25 years. While her husband is not given on the census she is not listed as divorced or widowed. Ref: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M91X-ZQK

The 15 Aug 1875 marriage record for August La Point and Nancy Wenow: https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/N3DF-J35 . ***Comment*** [1] Notice how the name could esily be read as Angus or August [2] While Wenow and Monroe seem very different, I am trying to keep in mind that Nancy and August probably have French Canadian accents that the recorder in Michigan is probably not accustomed to, and that the actual record was then transcribed into the County Return of Marriages for the year.
If we accept Angus as interchangeable with August (because of how they look when handwritten) we could also include:

-
Marie Jane "Nancy" (Monroe) LaPointe Benois (1857-?)
-
Eugene (1873)

-
Virginia (Apr 1879)
-

The fly in the oinment is that a George W. LaPoint, son of Angus LaPoint and Nancy Monroe dies in Feb 1902 at age 13 (working as a laborer), if this is the same George, then he likely has no descendants. https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FHLB-8R9
