With the demise of FTM, Ancestry and Roots Magic have reached a mutual agreement.  Root Magic is still an indepent company but the two companies are working together to transition FTM users to Roots Magic.  Details are available at

That is welcome news to many of us. Rootsmagic has a solid development team. FTM could use an overhaul. I only wish that sites like Ancestry.com would consider offering a open source API so that any software company could establish a link to individual trees. FamilySearch has moved in that direction by opening up the field even though the API isn't truly open yet. A larger more robust ecosystem of tools is helpful for all of us.
