Mike:

Thank you.

My 4th Great Grandfather was Edward Bancroft, MD (1744-1821) born in Westfield, Massachusetts, USA. He was a British double agent spy and was the valet of American founder Benjamin Franklin and spying on him. My 8th Great Grandfather was John Henry Bancroft (1630-1662) born in Derbyshire, England.

Does this helps?

Sincerely,

Benny

Hello Benjamin,

Does your Bancroft ancestry originate in England (United Kingdom),

i am a Bancroft descendant from the county of Cheshire in England.

I see that there are nearly 900 Bancroft profiles for persons born in the England on wikitree,

and they seem to be very widely dispersed around the country.

I have checked on the Guild of One-Names studies and there is not a group setup, possibly because the name is so widespread.

If the origin is England then you will need to narrow down the search to a county.

good luck with your search

Hello Benny,

There is a Richard Bancroft (1544 – 2 November 1610) was an English churchman, Archbishop of Canterbury from 1604 to 1610 and "chief overseer" of the King James Bible.

Richard Bancroft was born in September 1544 at Farnworth, now part of Widnes, Cheshire, second son of John Bancroft, and his wife Mary.
