Hi folks! I'm looking for proof that Reesa McCoy (also known as Reese, Recy, Rissey, etc) who married William Anderson Farley is the daughter of Daniel McCoy and Margaret Taylor. Most trees I've seen online rely on a Ruth in the 1850 census to make that connection.

I also came across a Facebook comment from someone else who isn't sure if/doesn't have proof Reesa is Randall McCoy's sister.

I also have not been able to find any definitive source identifying the parents for Reesa McCoy, but still going through the marriage records as those would be the most likely source if we can find the letter of consent for her marriage.

I have Margaret Taylor McCoy mother to Randolph daughter of John W. Taylor son of John Thomas Taylor son of Emiline Ware Taylor, maybe this will help in search of Reesa McCoy.

Is there anyone familiar with early Latter Day Saints records who could help track down a marriage record or mention of the marriage between Synthelia Guymon and Matthew Caldwell in 1852, in Salt Lake City, Utah? Thanks!

by Erin Breen G2G6 Pilot (346k points)
Well, this one is tough. I'm not having much luck. The only evidence so far seems to be non-source Find A Grave. If Synthelia was married to Caldwell, it seems to only have been for less than 4 years. Caldwell seems likely to be a polygamist in Utah. I'm not sure how, or if, the records support that.

I'm not too familiar with Tennessee/West Virginia/Kentucky records – is there someone who can find evidence for Margaret (Jackson) McCoy's parents? Her husband was Randolph McCoy's uncle.

Margaret's father Edward Jackson is DAR registered ancestor.  Margaret's descendant list is available at https://services.dar.org/public/dar_research/search_member/?Action=full&National_Number=680697

Thanks for the link, but it doesn't do much to determine if Edward had two daughters named Margaret, one by each wife. Margaret (Jackson) McCoy is supposedly the daughter of Edward and his first wife, Mary Haddan/Hadden. Margaret (Jackson) Hall (the DAR ancestor) is the daughter of Edward and his second wife, Elizabeth Brake.

Hi Erin,

I have bad news for you. Take a look at the supposed father, Colonel Edward Blake Jackson. There are sources on his profile that shows he's listed in the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution). This is his listing in the DAR database:

https://services.dar.org/public/dar_research/search_adb/?action=full&p_id=A060965

Take a look at his descendant list. It shows a daughter named Margaret (Peggy) who married a Jonathan Thompson Hall. There is already a profile for this daughter, which is connected.

Now, the Margaret who married John Randolph McCoy supposedly was a daughter of Edward Jackson and his first wife. The other daughter was from his second wife. But I still think it highly unlikely that he would have two daughters with the same name. Plus there are no sources tying the Margaret who married McCoy to Edward Jackson. My opinion is that she should be removed from these parents.

Sorry, I was writing my reply when the others came in. My opinion still stands. There is evidence for the one Margaret, and no evidence for the other. Doubtful that there would be two daughters named Margaret. The one without the evidence should be removed.
That's not bad news at all, better to have things backed by evidence. It's not unheard of for there to be half-siblings with the same name in the 17 and 1800s (especially when the father remarries), so that's part of why I wanted some other eyes on this.
Since there's a manager on the profile, I'm going to start a separate G2G question for Margaret (Jackson) McCoy before disconnecting her. Then there's a paper trail and a chance for other people to weigh in with evidence if they want to reconnect her to Edward and Mary.
Thanks Eric, so glad you caught this.

I made a post about Margaret (Jackson) McCoy if anyone wants to discuss why Edward and Mary are no longer attached as her parents. (Spoiler: I found a transcription of Edward's pension application, and it only mentions one daughter named Margaret.)

I'm on a roll here, but hey, we're all here to improve profiles!

Do any of you McCoy experts have sources or evidence connecting Margaret Taylor (Randolph's mother) to her father?

by Erin Breen G2G6 Pilot (346k points)

Marriage records for her parents are linked on her father's profile https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Taylor-11288.  The sources linking Margaret to her parents are not online, but are associated with the marriage registration (only the registration is online and not the letter; available at https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C91F-TSSP-P?cc=1804888

Hi…working on degree 6 of my 10 degrees to Randall McCoy. First five are verified.

I’m stuck at finding a reliable source that proves that McCoy-4245, Louisa McCoy (b.1827) is the daughter of McCoy-2681, William McCoy of Coshocton, OH. Correct locations and dates, generally accepted as true, but no reliable source to support it yet.

update… I Found land record for William McCoy and Daniel McCurdy in Coshocton, OH:

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR, PRIVATE CLAIMS,  BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT, General Land Office Records,  Accession Nr: CV-0051-085, date   4/7/1820, U.S. Military Survey 005N - 008W SE¼ sec 18,(https://glorecords.blm.gov/details/patent/default.aspx?accession=0051-085&docClass=CV&sid=0y0k0ffz.pau#patentDetailsTabIndex=0)

This document supports the fact that Louisa McCoy was a daughter of William McCoy.  Daniel McCurdy was the father of William Shakespeare McKee’s wife, Rebecca J McCurdy.  William Shakespeare McKee was the brother-in-law of Louisa McCoy, the wife of his brother, John Shoemaker McKee.

Does this count? Ty.

I apologize for my confusion, but if I understand the document correctly it establishes the connection between the men but it doesn't confirm Louisa's relationship to either.  It appears the missing piece is something that documents Louisa as a daughter of William or states her as a sister to a confirmed child of William McCoy.
Yes Patrick you are absolutely correct.  It is circumstantial as to the link between William McCoy and Louisa McCoy.

There  is documentation that Louisa was a wife of John Shoemaker McKee, and that John Shoemaker McKee was a brother of William Shakespeare McKee who was the husband of Rebecca Jane McCurdy, whose father was Daniel McCurdy, who was named along with William McCoy in a land record in the location near where that the McKees lived at that time.

I am having problems finding sources proving connections starting from Randolph McCoy's sister-in-law's mother, Elizabeth Keesee-54 through her father, Richard Keesee-27 and his sister, Anna Keesee-30. Everyone before and after are fine.

If I cannot resolve these connections, do I get to count anything on my weevils wrangled sticker?

In the will for Richard Keesee dated 7/22/1848 it lists Elizabeth (Keesee) Phillips as one of his 3 youngest daughters, and includes mention of her husband Jacob Phillips (See page 14 150 Years -Pike County Kentucky (1822-1972) Number Two).

Richard is one of my ancestors, so have some research.  I have a copy of the will of Jesse Keesee dated 2/18/1829 that I got from one of the books with the Pittsylvania County Virginia will book number 1 (unfortunately I forgot to note the source info to cite it as a source at this time).  The will was witnessed by Jose(?) Franklin, Samuel Mattox, George King, and Jebler Deer (?).  In the will Jesse grants his son Richard Keesee 1/9th part of his estate, including $33.28 "for which I hold his bond.". Jesse also mentions his daughter Anna Pickerel, giving her 1/9th of his estate including $100 " she has received from me already. "  Once I find the source I can update the profiles, but wanted to go ahead and mention in case anyone else has the appropriate source information to cite.
Thank you so much!
