Norway - What town is this (from a church marriage record)

Hi all,

I'm trying to figure out what town the groom on this record was born in:

https://www.digitalarkivet.no/view/327/pv00000009383415

The record is from the parish in Stavanger, Rogaland, Norway.

The record says his birthplace was "Levarg in Houl Brivig Under Stanem"

I've not been able to find a town in Norway with that name, in any combination of Levarg in Houl, or Levarg, or Stanem (etc).

The closest I've come to is Levanger, however, it's located in a different county Trøndelag.

Can anyone out there identify what town that is?

Thanks!

Dorthe Rasmusdatter was daughter of Rasmus Thorsen at Skjørestad in Riska local parish, then in Hetland. (Hetland was mostly incorporated in Stavanger in 1965, but the Dale and Riska parts on the east side of Gandsfjorden were incorpoated in Sandnes.)

The groom was widower Ole Johnsen from Leikvam in Høyland (today incorporated in Sandnes), "husmann" at Breivika under Hommersåk, Riska

What a nice map!
Wow, and very detailed aereal(?) photos!
Incredible information and maps!

And many thanks for doing some transcribing/translating of that record.  They are my 3rd great grandparents I'm just now "getting to know."

I'm only at the beginning stages of learning how to research my Norwegian ancestors, and all the information here has been very helpful!

What I found particularly fascinating, is that their grandchild (& other family) settled in Hetland South Dakota in the U.S., having themselves come from the then, Hetland area of Norway.

Fascinating stuff!

Looking at the image, there appear to be some challenges with the transcription.  https://media.digitalarkivet.no/view/15880/293

The grooms father's name is transcribed as Levang, which likely should match where the groom is from -- given as Levarg.   There is also some text with doesn't appear to have been transcribed.

This should also be two locations - groom and bride, so perhaps "Levang in Houl" and "Brivig under Stanem????"

First step would be to have someone good at reading the handwriting of the time take a close look.

Here is the "official" link to the scanned page, wedding no. 14:

Domkirken sokneprestkontor, SAST/A-101812/001/30/30BA/L0011: Parish register (official) no. A 11, 1832-1856
Quick link: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070626610017

It is a difficult handwriting, and requires someone with a good local knowledge to look at it. I tried to look for the deacon's copy book, which is usually very helpful, but that seems to be missing for the period 1822-1849.
