Wishlist items: Limit to Orphaned Profiles/Unconnected Links

It would be great for category pages to have a "limit to orphaned profiles" link at the top of the page the same way they have a "limit to watchlist" link. I know you can do it through WikiTree+, but you really have to know what you're doing to use it. It's inconvenient to constantly have to craft those searches. It's also not a user-friendly option for the beginner-intermediate WikiTreer.

A quick link for unconnected profiles in categories pages would also be helpful, especially in location categories, because then it would be easy to skim for possible connections within those categories.

These are both great ideas, Melissa!

Instead of requiring significant new coding effort, a simple implementation would just be to add two links to each category page, labelled "Unmanaged profiles" (or "Orphaned profiles") and "Unconnected profiles", which would automatically run the appropriate WikiTree Plus search on the category, without the necessity to construct that link manually.

I've added this to WBE Preview. Please take a look and let me know if you see any problems or have any questions.

YAY! Thank you. This will be a game changer!

Testing: I've tried it in a couple of the smaller maintenance categories and haven't gotten it to load results. I see the tree moving on the side so I'm assuming it's loading, but even after several minutes, nothing happens. I tried it in the LNAB category, and then I tried it in the much smaller Italy, Needs Bio category.

Update: I tried it again and it's working for me now. I like it!

Why would we need to have a "limit to orphaned profiles" link. As far as I know there is no reason to know why or how many profiles someone has orphaned.

No, it would show all of the orphaned profiles in each category so that people have an easier time finding and improving them. They're a lot less likely to be improved upon if no one is managing them. A lot of them just look like garbled gedcom imports.

Just to clarify: for example, I do BioBuilders and this month is focused on people named Christopher/Christine. I only have a handful of those in my watchlist, so my next preferred option would be to work on orphaned profiles.

could play around with the search parameters in WikiTree+ and pull up all the orphans in the Needs Bio category, which has over 16,000 profiles, and then doomscroll through a big table of search results. It's doable but takes skill, and if I'm new or don't know WikiTree+ exists, I'm out of luck.

OR, with this proposed option, I could potentially just open the Needs Bio category, which I already have bookmarked, click on "Limit to Orphans," Ctrl+F Christoper/Christine, and have results in 5 seconds.

These would both be really useful. I prefer not to use Wikitree+ and would definitely use "limit to orphaned profiles".  There are so many orphaned gedcom profiles out there that need a little TLC.

I also want to have an "unconnected" button in categories. I often go into categories to look for unconnected people to connect them. Currently I have to look in every profile manually to find an unconnected one. In big categories that is a tedious task. That button (or however you'd solve that problem) would help heaps.

Jelena, please take a look at WBE Preview.

Ian, I'm loving the new buttons. The text filter has also been really useful for moving abandoned profiles out of top-level maintenance categories and into more specific ones. It's been such a time-saver!
