How can I search for all profiles born in a specific city?

Hello fellow researchers,

Since I have fairly good knowledge of the ancestry in a few villages and locations I could possibly help to connect a few profiles from these locations. My question is now - how do I find all the people from one particular city, for example "Wallenhorst"?

I have tried https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:SearchPerson and entered the location in the birth location keywords field, but I get an error:

You must provide something to search with.

You can do this using WikiTree+. Try this link:

https://wikitree.sdms.si/default.htm?report=srch1&Query=BirthLocation%3DWallenhorst&MaxProfiles=500

BTW the WikiTree Sourcer Extension will now automatically create WikiTree+ searches based on the info in the record/profile that you are on. You can then edit them to remove data you want to omit from the search (which is what I did above).

Or, the documentation on WikiTree+ Text search is here.

Have you tried WikiTree Plus?

Here's an example query, looking for all profiles that mention "Wallenhorst" in the birth location:

https://wikitree.sdms.si/default.htm?report=srch1&Query=BirthLocation%3DWallenhorst&MaxProfiles=500

If you get a message upon loading that page, saying "Error retrieving autocomplete from WikiTree Plus server: /Stat2.json", just click ok. Then click on "Get Profiles". You should get 44 results.

Alternatively, I have found Google very useful. site:wikitree.com "Wallenhorst" will find about 77 profiles, but this will include those that mention Wallenhorst in other context, like as a name, or somewhere else in the profile.

Hi Sven. Using WikiTree Plus as recommended by Rob and Daniel is a good solution, with precise if complicated controls.

You can however also use the original method you thought of at the

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:SearchPerson

page (also available as Search through the Find menu).

As well as putting the name of the village in the Birth Location field, put * in the First Name field and * in the Last Name field. The asterisk * serves as a wildcard which matches anything.

You may end up with a lot of results unless the village name is rare.
