Death record or grave of Maggie MacKenzie, 1878-1904, Boston

I am looking for any kind of death record for Margaret Mary (Maggie) MacKenzie (1878-1904) who died in Boston, MA, USA. She was born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada.

She worked as a domestic servant to a wealthy family in the Boston area (perhaps as wide as the "Boston States"). She was unmarried. Her name in records may be spelled 'Mckenzie'. She died from tuberculosis. I doubt there would have been money to pay for her burial or headstone.

Ancestry has a number of death records, as this name is not uncommon, some with middle names (differs) and some without.  The source is an index, so details are quite sparse.

Hi Daniel,

I used the AmericanAncestors.org database to search all the Massachusetts deaths in 1904 for a Mar* Mckenzie or a Ma*g* Mackenzie and let it search for Soundex matches. I went through all of the likely records and unfortunately none match your Maggie/Margaret/Mary.

The closest match is this one, which can be viewed in the Cambridge  town book on Family search here (entry #263).

So unless this is her record with a lot of erroneous information, I don't think her death was recorded in Massachusetts.

Is this her in the 1900 census in Swampscott?

I am pretty sure that would be her. This is great, thanks very much for that!

I did not know how to search US census records. I am going to have a look through these census records now for other sisters and aunts. Many went to the Boston area to work as servants or nannies for a few years before returning and got married. They were engaged of sorts and were waiting for their future husbands to have a house and more established source of income before returning to Canada. Likely, the sisters all served the same family or at least were in the same area. It fills in a gap in their lives where all the family seems to have known was that they "went to the Boston States".

Thanks. That is her and I do know about that memorial stone and have visited it. It was erected by her parents Kate and Alexander but her body was not returned to Cape Breton (that was not really done in those days especially when someone died from TB) and there is no Nova Scotia death record because she died in Boston. I was hoping an MA death record or burial location there might reveal more about her.
