Welcome to the Appalachia Project

Appalachia is a rich culture that is unique in itself with diverse genealogy, religions, legends, economics and identity.

This project celebrates Appalachia's diversity.  We need WikiTreers like you to help us.  If you have ancestors from Appalachia, you live in Appalachia or you simply love or have an interest in Appalachia's people and culture like we do, come join us!

Our mission is to explore all the Appalachian regions and people through genealogy.  If you signed the Honor Code and have been a member for at least 30 days, click on the ANSWER button and let us know which Team(s) you wish to participate in (required for membership):

Ok I got many generations on both my grandmothers sides that was Appalachian do I add the sticker to them, I was born in Greenville County, South Carolina is that actually listed as part of the project

I just participated in the 2024 Challenge for the Appalachian Region. I have an Abundant family from the Region who came from Pennsylvania and settled along the Ohio River from Pittsburg to the Virginia/West Virginia border. They came to the area in the early 1700's and settled in Ohio Territory.  I would be extremely happy if you would allow me to join this Group. *Region 1 and 2 definitely apply.

Hi, I would like to join the Appalachia Project.

I was raised in Spartanburg County, SC and much of my family still lives in that area.

Recently, I was given a family tree and many records from my great uncle who passed recently. I am slowly going through the process of verifying and sourcing that tree and the records he has. When I told this sorry to a friend she recommended that I do this on Wiki tree.

I am new to Wiki Tree and I am looking at ways I can set up profiles for my family members and other people I find along the way in the most accurate, respectful, and proper way that I can. I think being a member of the Appalachia project would help with this.

Most my my family on that side are from West Virginia and Ohio. I live in Arizona, but by chance, I happen to be relocating to West Virginia in the coming months and will be able to collect more information and records in person.

I would like to join. Lots of family from the area. We currently reside in the area. My birth family, adopted, husband's family etc are from the area. We have colonial & indigenous roots (Tsalagi, Choctaw especially). I am a great researcher & collect historical information. I also have interest as a international historian.

My mother's line is mostly clustered in Frederick Co. Va. pre Revolution, with some scattered in Western Pa. & the Northern Va. panhandle.  From there they migrated along the National Road and by the Civil War all settled in Central Illinois.  I want to link them to the Appalachian Project though the North and North Central teams.
