The Kentucky Project is looking for volunteers.

Kentucky is a diverse state with a rich history and culture. It is home to a number of major industries, including agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism. Kentucky is also a major center for horse racing, with the Kentucky Derby being one of the most famous horse races in the world.

If you have family who came from Kentucky, members who live in Kentucky or are just interested in this great state, we would love to have you join us.

We are working on connecting profiles, adding sources, documenting Notables, surveying cemeteries, digging into the Homestead land grants, and add profiles for all Kentuckians that served in wars.  Our mission is to explore all of Kentucky and her people through genealogy.

If you are a WikiTree member who would like to help improve Kentucky profiles, please:

  1. Signed WikiTree's Honor Code
  2. Introduce yourself by answering this post. (Please post an answer, not a comment.) Tell us about your interests in Kentucky and we will get you a - United States badge.
  3. Add kentucky to your followed tags, as well as tags for any special topics that you are focusing on.

The Kentucky Project is  under the umbrella of The United States Project

Hi,

I am interested in Kentucky. My Maternal grandmother was born in Paducah. Additionally, I have a great great grandfather from Graves County.

My mother has a lot of DNA matches from the southeastern counties that border Tennessee. I do not know how they are related to her, althoughI have worked trees till I am blue in the face and cannot find the connection. Endogamy is the word of the day there.

I also have a fourth great grandfather who lived in Casey County in the early 1800s. I now have a copy of the deed when he sold his land. I am seeking tax records for Casey County early 1800s.

Looking forward to this project.

I am interested in Kentucky in that my Engel / Angle and Shalley ancestors lived in Nelson and Davidson counties in the 1780's into the early 1800's before many moved west to Missouri.  My German immigrant traveled from Pennsylvania,  Virginia, NC and Kentucky after the Revolutionary War, as did thousands.  Marriages, births and deaths occurred in these decades to my family and I have not been able to find at least half of the 10 children of John Wendell Angle and Charlotte Shalley from this time frame.

The U.S. Governors Project has just completed connecting all 55 deceased Kentucky governors to the Big Tree and now has an active team working on connecting our remaining still-living governors. Though connected, many of these profiles are lacking solid bios if there are any Kentucky bio-builders looking for a fun project. We could also use help on expanding CC7s if anyone enjoys working on the lines of prominent Kentucky families.
by David Randall G2G6 Pilot (361k points)
That's awesome David!

We have plans for connecting & sourcing all KY Notables are in the works.

The majority of my family is from northeastern Kentucky (I literally have only a handful lines that haven't been there for the last 200 years). I'm working to not only expand my Rowe/Roe family but to also add many related families. I also help coordinate a YDNA project at FTDNA for the Rowe/Roe descendants of my MDKA, [[Rowe-2360|James Rowe Sr]] from Virginia, who led the family to settle in eastern Kentucky, in hopes of one day definitively finding his father and ancestors.

I have lived in Kentucky on and off since 1980. My Father is from the Phelps, Ky area. I recently found the Cemetery that my 5th Great Grandparents (Schmidt is the true Surname) are buried in and soon plan to visit the site and document the graves there. Would be happy to assist with any information I have.
