Is Shenandoah considered west Virginia? My tree shows ancestors born in 1803 in Shenandoah. There are others with the Stults last name I haven't been able to merge with yet that date back to the 1600's. My tree is Stults-376 any help would be greatly appreciated. I've been stuck for quite a while.
My husband has family from Shenandoah Valley. In fact, one of his grandfather's owned most of Shenandoah Valley. Do you have any Bailey's or Profit's in your family tree so far?
I'm not sure of any Bailey's or Profit's. I haven't seen any but I've only researched my direct descendants not the siblings. Is that tree open to me? Thanks Mike Stults

I would love to join.  I have never joined a project before.  My grandmother was from the heart of WV, Webster County WV.  She grew up in a logging town, Hackers Valley.  I used to go and visit her family from a tiny tot and eventually took my daughter when she was a baby to meet her relatives.

Thank you!!!

Yes, I would like to join the West Virginia Project. I am a native West Virginian, a true Mountain Momma, Holler Girl. Many of my ancestors lived in southern West Virginia for most of their lives. I severely lack skills in WikiTree, but am willing to learn how I can contribute.

I am intersted in The West Virginia Project as my great grandparents came from Hardy Virginia/West Virginia.  One DNA report shows be as a descendant of the Stump family also.  I want to learn the correct format for citations also!  I will help where I can.
by Tom Simon G2G Crew (530 points)

Tom -

Welcome to the West Virginia Project!  Hardy County is a beautiful County where many pioneers ventured over the mountains.  I, too, am connected to a Stump family. We will have to compare.  Let me know if I can help with those citation formats. Thank you for your service.

I was born and raised in West Virginia.   I've lived here all but two years of my life.  Most of my ancestors were in the State for generations----most while we were still Virginia.   West Virgina families in my tree include George, Tenney, Osburn, Eskew, Strader, Ratcliffe, Johnson, Hall, Hays, Arnold, Cochran, Edwards, Tallman, Dunnington, Rowan, Rohrbough, Hess, Hitt, Reger, and related families.
by Keith George G2G Crew (530 points)

Keith -

Welcome to the West Virginia Project!  You and I probably have a lot of connections since some of the names you listed are popular in my family line:  Tenney, Dunnington and the Rohrboughs.  My Upshur County family.

For sure, Upshur County is/was the location of much of my family.   I have told people that I am related to everyone in Upshur County which is probably not far from the truth.

I've never been part of a project and have a great deal to learn before I am much help.

You just hit on the best thing about joining a Project: collaborative help.  When you get some spare time, let me know and I can help show you some of the great tips of WikiTree.  And, yep, we connect closely to my Linger family line.

Hi, Keith, we are 5th Cousins, once removed through the Rohrbough line.  It's great to have you and so many new members of the West Virginia project.

I am researching my husband's Phillips and McKinney families. His dad is a Phillips and currently lives in Boone County. My father-in-law's paternal grandfather, was a judge named McKinney. Do you happen to have any knowledge or connections to these lines?

Just by updating my own ancestors I've already been part of this! Born and bred in WV, my mother was a WV history teacher. All of my ancestors to the early 1800s were from what is now West Virginia, and a sizeable number were in these hills from pre-Revolutionary times.

My family has a long history with WV. My 4th great grandfather was Paul Shaver the brother of the well known WV pioneer Peter Shaver of Shavers mountain and Shavers Fork. The next generations lived in the Charleston area.

As you add more Profiles to WikiTree, I can't wait to see if we can connect closer than the 21st cousins we do currently. wink

Yes, I'm very interested in the West Virginia Project!

I was born and raised in the Charleston area, Charleston High class of 1972.

My father was born in Cairo, Ritchie County, and grew up at the Henry Logan Chikdren's Home in Parkersburg. Parkersburg HS Class of 1937.

My mother was born and raised in Kingwood, Preston County. Kingwood High Class of 1937.

Both sets of grandparents were born and raised in West Virginia, as well.

My great-grandfather was born in VA but by the time he was 3 1/2 he lived in WV but he hadn't moved.  I still have relatives in central WV.  Although I've been working on the family tree for many yrs, I'm sure there's more info I haven't found.  This could be very interesting.

Although I have no experience working on any project yet, this is one for me!.  I am a currant resident of WV and am born and raised here.  I have many family ties to WV and the surrounding states.  So I know the state well but I'm not real experienced in geneology.  But you have to state somewhere right?!
